Golf at Highland National on Sunday, October 11

On the Sunday after the wedding, we will be capping off the weekend's festivities with a round of golf at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul.

When I met Katie (pictured at left), she was working at Highland National, and we played our first rounds of golf here. I (below, right) still have never beaten her, but I have a feeling that it just might happen on October 11. If you'd like to witness history, please click the link below and let us know that you'll be playing with us.

We have five tee times reserved starting at 1:00. You will find a map with directions to Highland below. Green fees are $23 and carts cost $15.

We'll see you there!

A little trivia: St. Paul's Highland neighborhood was home to "Peanuts" creator Charles Schultz and was an inspiration for his work. He learned to play golf at Highland National, and they installed a Snoopy-shaped green on the 16th to commemorate him.

Things To Do In St. Paul

Fall in Love!

That was the first thing that came to mind. Stay tuned for some more ideas for things you and your family can do for fun while you're in town.

Como Park
- St. Andrew Catholic Church is located within walking distance of this classic St. Paul recreation area, which features:
  • The Como Park Zoo and Conservatory - Both of these great attractions are free of charge. The Zoo is fantastic, with sea lions, giraffes, a primate house, tigers, and lots more. The Conservatory offers flowers, sculptures, and even a Japanese Garden. Both will be open from 10am to 4pm in October.
  • Como Golf Course - The St. Paul golf courses will be discussed in-depth later. If you want to get a round in before the wedding, this is the perfect spot! Katie and Brian watched usher Dan Rausch hole out from 150 yards on the 14th hole!
  • Lake Como - Enjoy 1.5-mile autumn walk around this St. Paul gem, which features a beautiful old pavilion, pictured here. A restaurant and coffee shop can be found inside.
  • The Carousel - This beautifully-restored carousel was built in 1914 and originally used at the Minnesota State Fair.

Hotel Booking Information

Our reception is being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown St. Paul. It is marked on our Wedding Locations Map, and you can find directions (from South Dakota) on this site as well.

The hotel can be reached by phone at 1-651-292-1900. You can also check out their web page. Tell them that you are booking a room for the Shephard-Brass wedding. The rate is locked in at $109 per night vs. the usual $130 per night.

There are covered parking ramps with interior hotel access on Wabasha and Cedar Streets. They have a clearance of 5'9" and 7', respectively. The cost is $14 daily and $18 valet. Street parking is metered and the side of the street that allows overnight parking switches every night, so use caution with this option.

Check-in at the hotel is 3:00pm and check-out is 12:00pm.

Our reception is on the top floor of The Crowne Plaza, so it is the closest option. However, there are many other hotels in the surrounding area. The map below displays a few of them.
